The Last This, The Last That

We're leaving for Taiwan on August 18th, so we have little more than 2 weeks left to pack up life here in New Brunswick. It's exciting! And busy! As you can imagine, with such little time left life has almost become a list of things to squeeze into the next 15 days with each thing completed being crossed off an imaginary list. Everything is the last this or the last that. We were at a music festival in Sackville this weekend and as we drove home past Moncton, Melodie remarked "This is the last time we'll drive through Moncton for A YEAR". Well, Moncton kind of sucks (respect to the H&M and some good friends, though) but it is kind of weird to think that even if we wanted to we won't have the option of visiting Moncton for at least A YEAR.

We thought about going back to Korea, but we really didn't want to do the same thing twice. We looked at moving to Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and China and ultimately settled on Taiwan. The fact that we've had 2 miserable winters and cold summers in New Brunswick has probably made the idea of moving to a tropical island all the more tempting. In terms of how easy it is to travel to Taiwan vs Korea (and I'm sure the comparisons are never going to end) I have to say that Korea was by far easier. Everything was just taken care of for us when we went to Korea (which was great because we really didn't know what we were doing). In Taiwan we are going to be responsible for finding our own apartment, setting up bank accounts... all the stuff we happily left to our Korean employers. The visa application process and the booking of flights have all been way more complicated. But you know what? It's totally going to be worth the extra legwork. There is so much I want to see and do in Taiwan, and the natural beauty looks phenomenal. I live in a province where winter lasts the better part of 8 months... and I might be spending my next Christmas on the beach. I'll be Arbys-less, but you can't have everything, can you?

So here's to the next 2 weeks. They're going to be filled with fun, chores (gag!), friends and family... and then life gets really interesting.
